I Won Tuesday’s Skirmish
I did take a step forward yesterday in my battle to lose weight. Actually 30 minutes worth of steps and about nine tons of weight lifted.
After several weeks of inactivity due to injuries to my back and upper arms, it was good to get back to a work out that was a lot like what I was doing before my injuries. I met with trainer Mike Clegg for the first time since December 9th, and a session with Mike is always a good work out.
I began the session with 12 minutes cardio warm-up on the treadmill, then went to lifting. I lifted 8,600 pounds in six different arm routines. I followed that with 8,000 pounds lifted in three leg routines. I ended the session with three sets of lunges-well, as much of a lunge as a 58 year old with arthritic knees can do-followed by 1,500 pounds on the abdominal machine.
I was very pleased on how well my back held up. I was more than a little nervous about reinjuring it, and in a number of the arm routines I used lighter weights than I had been doing previously. My back feels OK this morning, so that is good news. Both of my shoulders are sore though. It wasn’t fun putting on my coat to go to work today, but then again, it is never that much fun going to work. My shoulders are sore, but maybe a day of rest will help them.
I finished up the work out with 18 more minutes on the treadmill. Overall I covered 1.5 miles in the 30 minutes I walked, and burned 333 calories. This was still a moderate pace, but it was a little faster than the pace of my first few post-injury work outs, plus I was burning calories at a faster rate.
After Monday night’s debacle, I was quite pleased that I did not feed my face with snacks last night. Overall it was a good day eating. Like I said, yesterday was a step forward in the battle, and it was good to win a skirmish.
I am looking forward to another good work out tonight.
Thanks for stopping by.
