A Dream Work Out

Yesterday really was a rough work out for me.  I tweaked my back even before I started the work out, and by the time I was done, I was plenty sore.  Despite a big change in my exercise habits, and a change in my eating habits, I still have a more than ample stomach, and occasional back trouble is a result.  I am sore today, but a few more Ibuprofen, an ice pack, and maybe a visit to the chiropractor, and I will be ready to work out again on Friday.

Yesterday was my bi-weekly training session with Mike Clegg.  I wish I could afford more sessions, but a PT is not cheap.  At least a good PT is not cheap, and Mike is a good one.  He knows the right buttons to push to challenge me to work harder than I had planned, and I always feel good about what I have accomplished in one of our sessions.

I started the Tuesday work out with 10 minutes cardio then went through the entire lifting routine.  I lifted 11,350 pounds in the six arm routines I did, and 8,700 pounds in the three leg routines.  I also did 1,800 pounds on the abdominal machine.  After lifting, I finished with 35 more minutes of cardio.  I walked 2.6 miles overall in the 45 minutes, and the machine says I burned 595 calories.  I always wonder about the accuracy of those machines, but 595 calories burned sounded like a reasonable number.

I have almost as many dream jobs as I do favorite movies.  Many of my dream jobs involve writing about a sport-I write mostly about auto racing, but I have been a sports nut my entire life.  I have never been much of a results story writer.  I like to cover the “humanity” of an event.  That is a fancy way of saying I am into human interest stories. Baseball has more human interest stories than an army of writers could ever cover.  And that is without mentioning any superstars.  I would rather write about bleacher bums and umpires, groundskeepers and bullpen catchers.  Do you think there might be a story to get talking with old-timers watching spring training in Arizona?  I do.

Unfortunately when spring training rolls around, I will be in Nebraska doing my day job as an accountant.  Well, if I win the Powerball Lottery, I might be in Arizona.

Thanks for stopping by.
